Growing plants from seeds and cuttings is one of the most rewarding aspects of cut flower production – you will feel a real sense of satisfaction harvesting armloads of flowers started from scratch. It is also a cost effective way to fill your home with flowers or to produce plants cheaply for your flower farm business.
Propagation is one of Rachel’s favourite subjects and something she has done for 25 years as a horticulturalist, the majority of flowers she works with have started off life in one of her greenhouses.
The aim of this fully practical workshop is to arm you with the knowledge, confidence and materials to create a cut flower garden from seed, cuttings and division.
You will learn how to:
Set up an efficient and productive propagating space
Choose the right containers and compost
Sowing seeds – using our own fresh seed along with some special varieties from the USA
Prick out seedlings and grow them on
Take basal cuttings from dahlias and chrysanthemums
Divide herbaceous perennials

By the end of the day you will have propagated your own cutting patch to take home, which will produce an abundance of flowering stems from June through till October.
This workshop includes refreshments and a two course home-cooked lunch made with fresh produce from the kitchen garden.
